IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE
On 5th September, our committee agreed the following advice for all our members
Group Safety Aspects on our Walks
We should like to remind all our Ramblers about three important aspects of safety
on our walks.
- On all our walks; at levels A, B, or C, the leader will
appoint a back-marker. Please ensure that you know who the back marker
is and make sure that whilst on the walk you remain between the leader and the
back-marker.
- If you have any problems or you see someone else with problems, please let
either of these two people know so that the walk can be adjusted accordingly and
provision can be made.
- Please try to choose a walk that you are capable of doing, so that you can
enjoy yourself and not be the cause of any delays and concern within your group.
If you are uncertain about the demands of the walk, please consult the leader
who will advise you.
Thank you for your consideration and please enjoy your walking.

NEW WALKERS
What you need to know
Almost every Sunday throughout the year the Liverpool Ramblers coach leaves
from St John"s Lane opposite the Marriott Hotel, at 08:30am and begins the return to Liverpool at
18:00 in summer and 17:00 in winter.
At least three walks are available every Sunday with experienced leaders in
charge of each walk. Details of the walks are circulated around the coach and you
are free to chose whichever walk is suited to your ability. The walks are graded
'A', 'B' and 'C'.
- Grade 'A' [Strenuous]. These walks are only suitable for strong, experienced
walkers who are capable of walking 12 to 16 miles at a brisk pace with 2000 to 4000 ft
or more of ascent.
-
Grade 'B' [Moderate]. This grade of walk requires a good level of fitness and
the ability to walk 10 to 12 miles with between 1200 to 2000 ft of ascent.
- Grade 'C' [Leisurely]. Gentler walks of 8 to 10 miles with, usually, very little
climbing. These walks are ideal for new members with little or no hill walking
experience and for younger children. They are also great for experienced walkers
who just want a less energetic walk.

Booking your walk
Coach seats currently cost £11. Children travel at half price, but must be
accompanied by a responsible adult. Our walks are very popular and are usually
fully booked two to three weeks in advance. You can book your walk..
- at theThursday evening club night where
you will can see what walks are available, and if you are new to walking have a
chat with some of the members. They will be only too pleased
to answer any questions you may have.
- or by phoning 722 8491 between 6pm and 8pm any day except Sunday and
Thursday
- or using the email form
You can book further walks on the Sunday coach.

What you need to take with you
Here is a basic list of what you should wear,
have in your rucksack, and leave on the coach. The walk leader may not allow
you to join his party if you are ill-equipped.
BOOTS
These should be waterproof and have a good "Vibram" or similar
sole. Ordinary shoes, trainers or similar are unsuitable for hill walking
and may lead to strained or broken ankles
Why not take a look at this video about chosing your boots. It's from Cotswold,
Ramblers' recommended supplier, but the information isn't specific to Cotwold.
IN THE RUCKSACK
(inside a polythene liner)
- Food. We usually stop for lunch in open countryside, not in a town or
village with pubs or teashops.
-
Drink. Your choice of water, fruit juice, flask of tea/coffe/soup(in winter?)
- Spare socks just in case you put your feet in boggy
ground or deep water.
- Warm clothing. Besides wearing a fleece jacket in winter, you should
carry one (or more) lightweight fleece jumpers or sweaters even in summer.
It can get surprisingly cold even on warm days. Two layers work better than
one at keeping you warm
(Outside the polythene liner)
- Waterproof coat and over trousers. These should be good quality not
"showerproof."
IN RUCKSACK POCKET (so you can get to it quickly and easily)
- Sun hat in summer or warm hat and gloves in winter
- Sun cream - even in winter
- First Aid Kit
LEFT ON COACH (in sports bag or similar)
- Complete change of clothing. It can get very
wet at times, remember.
Even good quality waterproof clothing may not provide complete protection
- Food and drink for the return journey.
You are welcome to come with us on two walks without becoming a member, but
after that you do need to do so. To join us, you must join Ramblers,
if you are not already a member. Join Ramblers at the
Ramblers web site.
You can join on-line with a credit or debit card or download a form (pdf file)
to print off, fill in and post back to Ramblers with your cheque. You will be
allocated to a local group based on your postcode, unless you specify us as your
local group, but you can change this, if you are not allocated to us.
