and when out walking, you need to be prepared for the worst the weather can throw at you. Most importantly you need good set of waterproofs. Without them you can get very wet, very quickly. You should also carry with you extra layers, fleece, hat, gloves. Without them you can get very cold very quickly. You should also carry a torch. It can get very dark very early. Please don’t rely on someone else to have spares to lend to you.
Liverpool Ramblers enjoying their walk, even though it’s raining, because they have appropriate clothing and equipment.
Remember, to stay warm this winter, winter drawers on.
After several years at its current level, the club room charge is to increase from 5th January to £2.50. This decision was taken by the general committe at their meeting on 14 November. This should ensure that the charges for the club room will cover its costs.
Read this message from Maggie about it.
The club is excellent value for money, and provides a clean, safe and pleasant environment to meet other ramblers, particularly for potential new members.
More people than ever came on the Festival of Winter Walks arranged by Liverpool Rambler and Brisk Walker Organiser, Dave Dent. Although the weather was occasionally inclement, that didn’t put off a record 251 people enjoying these walks. Perhaps that was in part because though bad at times, the weather was still better than last year.
But the main reason for the record attendance was slmost certainly the excellent publicity with mentions on local radio and in the local press, and John Leach personally distributing publicity in 22 Liverpool libraries. So many non-members came along, that Dave ran out of the special membership forms and had to use the ordinary membership application forms. Let’s hope that some of these new people enjoyed their experience and decide to join us as members.
Here you can see Dave’s photos of the walks, or see his report to Ramblers HQ.
Whether or not you joined us for the Festival of Winter Walks, now is an excellent time to start planning your 2012 walking. Just look at our club walks programme, or the new public rambles programme which will be available here shortly.
You are welcome to join us on up to two of our Sunday rambles, but then we hope you will join Ramblers. Check our programme on the clubwalks page.
You can also join our Public Rambles without any commitment, and they do have a wider ranger of walks, particularly suitable for those of you who may be unsure of your fitness. The current programme for this season is now over, but a new season’s programme is coming out soon. Come back soon to check it out.
